THE SCAR FREE FOUNDATION

A CAUSE THAT CAN'T BE IGNORED

Scars are not simply wounds that have healed, they leave lasting physical and psychological marks. When new stem cell research triggered a breakthrough in scar-free healing, The Healing Foundation, a charity supporting pioneering research into scarring, saw a moment to raise vital funds for further research. Its target was £25 million.

THINKING

The science and research was exciting, driving the foundation forwards. But to turn the heads of the world’s most influential business people and wealthiest philanthropists, an emotional connection and a clear collective mission with a sense of urgency was needed.

We gathered leading scientists to create a new vision. We asked, with the right funding, could we eradicate scarring altogether? The question was not if, but when. And the answer was “within a generation”. This was the ambition we needed people to see.

REALISING THE IDEA

The new name is ‘The Scar Free Foundation’. The mission was to rid the world of scars by 2050.

With a distinctive graphic identity, unflinching portraits by award-winning photographer Spencer Murphy and a new tone of voice and messaging, we set this visionary goal in people’s hearts and heads through lived, human stories.

IMPACT

The Scar Free Foundation has gone from strength to strength since the rebrand, securing a further £3 million in funding from the UK government in late 2017. Other successes include:

£1 million raised on the new brand's launch night

A new partnership secured with the Armed Forces
