Disasters Emergency Committee
Cyclone IDAI Appeal
In March 2019 a cyclone swept through Mozambique, Malawi, and Zimbabwe, leaving behind a trail of destruction. Across the three countries, at least 900 people were killed and around three million were left in desperate need of humanitarian assistance.
We had to act as quickly as possible raise as much emergency funds as possible whilst the disaster was hitting the news headlines and capitalise on public consciousness
Our flexibility allowed us to mobilise incredibly quickly and within two hours of client briefing we had a multi-channel Digital, Print and Television campaign approved and live the next morning.
Newspapers and digital channels including newspaper home page takeovers were selected for their immediacy and environment as well as peak television spots across evening news breaks and the England V Czech Republic Football Match broadcast on ITV1
The appeal has received the backing of a number of high-profile figures including Raymond Blanc, Alesha Dixon, JB Gill, Bear Grylls, Shobna Gulati, Myleene Klass, Annie Lennox, Adrian Lester, Simon Pegg, James Purefoy and Emma Watson.
- £8 million was raised in the first 24 hours of the appeal with a further £10 million in the next three days.
- In all the appeal raised over £43 million to be spent on humanitarian aid by the member charities upto March 2021.
