Not since the 1987 film Mannequin have we seen a lifeless window model come to life and dance around a store. Thanks to Zara, for one week shoppers can use their smartphones to reveal walking models where the static figurines once stood.

Customer are encouraged to connect to wifi spots that have been installed across the store and download the app. The bare stands now have codes that once scanned reveal the mannequins augmented reality replacement. 

These holographs are an improvement on static models, showing shoppers how the clothes look and fit on a moving body.

The AR models have been based on models Léa Julian and Fran Summers who were photographed by 68 cameras when dancing around and talking to each other. 

For the online shoppers Zara has launched a mini version. When your order arrives the box can be scanned to see Lea and Fran dance around your room.

Whilst this experience is only in store for a week, it’s great to see a retailer experimenting with in-store technology and keeping the high-street experience relevant to a tech first audience.
