Launching the Virgin Atlantic 787 Dreamliner to 25-40 year old audience

To launch the Virgin Atlantic 787 Dreamliner and attract a younger 25 – 40 year old audience we decided to apply the ‘Virgin effect’ to our launch event to demonstrate how the airline is a leader in innovation, both here in the UK and across the Atlantic.

 

We wanted to create something surprising, innovative and daring, to make the media and consumers around the world take notice of Virgin Atlantic’s latest aircraft, while appealing to our target audience.

We staged the world’s first live-streamed gig from 35,000 feet in the sky onboard Virgin's inaugural 787 Dreamliner flight from London to Atlanta. UK superstars Rudimental and Gorgon City played to an in-flight audience of competition winners and press. DJ Locksmith took to the on-board PA system to get everyone dancing in their seats. As a finale, both bands walked the length of the plane accompanied by trumpet players and live vocalists as guests sang along. The two acts then went on to perform at a private event for the airline in Atlanta.

 

Results

In total over 50,000 unique users visited
the site, we generated over 200 pieces of coverage and #FlightDecks trended organically on Twitter.
