Avios, the travel rewards scheme used by British Airways, among others, is on the hunt for its first social media agency.

It uses 101 to handle its creative advertising but is now looking for support with its digital activity. Creativebrief is handling the process.

Although the account will be UK-focused, Avios is keen to expand its scheme internationally, particularly in South Africa.

Avios’ most recent ad, "the big reward", was released last July. It explained how its system works, using real people to nominate friends and family for travel rewards.

In October, regional airline Flybe announced it would use Avios in place of its former frequent flyer scheme.

Aside from flying, Avios points can be collected in a range of ways including by spending in Tesco, Shell service stations and using specific Lloyds Bank credit cards.

They can be spent on British Airways, Iberia, Monarch, Air Malta, Eurostar, as well as services like hotels, car hire and holidays.

The brand was previously known as Air Miles but was rebranded to Avios in 2011.
