In just over a week, 50,000 people are set to take part in the TCS London Marathon. The 26.2-mile course is a test of endurance and to help runners focus on the finish line rather than chafing and friction, Vaseline is sponsoring nipples.

Research from Vaseline shows that 92% of marathon participants experience chafing during the course, with 67% saying it has led to bleeding. One of the most prevalent and visible areas is nipple chafing, experienced by 1 in 3 marathon goers.

The experience of ‘runner’s nipple’ is universal but often overlooked. To make sure that nipple pain doesn’t get in the way of a personal best, Vaseline is shining a light on the issue and helping keep runners ‘safe from the chafe’.

“Anyone who has taken part in an endurance event like the TCS London Marathon will be aware of the threat of chafing to sensitive areas of skin. And while injuries such as a runner's nipple might sound funny, they can also be very painful, which is why we are delighted to welcome Vaseline as the Official Nipple Protector of the TCS London Marathon,” says Hugh Brasher, CEO of London Marathon Events.

As ‘Official Nipple Protector’ of the TCS London Marathon, Vaseline is offering its Vaseline Protecting Jelly at the TCS London Marathon Running Show, taking place between Wednesday 22 April and Saturday 25 April. While on the marathon day itself, Vaseline products will also be available around the course.

Vaseline has also issued some expert advice to runners who seek to avoid nipple chafing, such as start early and apply protection ahead of time to get ahead. Wear well-fitted and breathable fit to minimise friction and sweat, and keep a small amount of Vaseline on hand for any pain along the way.

Offering practical advice and a solution to a familiar but often dismissed issue, Vaseline is enabling runners to get the most out of their Marathon.
