Alcoholic DrinksAs Scotland prepares to take on the men’s FIFA World Cup for the first time in 28 years, Tennent’s is dreaming of the long-awaited moment.
The ‘Time to Dream’ campaign from Tennent’s and Leith stars Game of Thrones’ actor Rory McCann. The rousing film celebrates years of Scottish football memories, heartbreak and hope.
From a Glasgow pub, McCann recounts Scotland’s history with the World Cup, following a 1998 knockout at the group stage. As he speaks on Scotland’s footballing history, the pub around him is filled with images of fans and memories.
The pub moves through the late nineties to the present day, while McCann’s monologue builds from reflection to hope and dreams for the upcoming tournament. Raising a pint of Tennent’s as the pub erupts around him with cheers, the film ends with the rousing line: “We are not ready to wake up yet”.
“Scotland has waited a long time for this moment, and we wanted to capture what it really feels like. ‘Time to Dream’ is about the belief supporters have carried for nearly three decades - the hope, the heartbreak and the pride,” explains Hazel Alexander, Senior Brand Manager for Tennent’s.
Shot in a real Glasgow pub, the campaign mirrors the emotions felt by Scottish fans as they nervously await the upcoming games. The campaign is an ode to Tennent’s Scottish heritage. The drink has been a longstanding part of the football spectating ritual for Scottish fans, in pubs, living rooms and gatherings.
The campaign strategy began with the playoff win against Denmark. The night reignited belief across the country and sparked the dream of Scottish success in the tournament.
As the Scottish team prepares to take on the world, Tennent’s is watching alongside and keeping the dream alive.
