To teach audiences new recipes and showcase the versatility of its products, Waitrose has launched a new shoppable cooking show which is now streaming online, Waitrose Cookery School Live.

The show is hosted by BBC Good Food Show presenter and Great British Bake Off finalist Ruby Bhogal, alongside WCS’s own Alex Szrok. The online cookery class takes place in London’s King’s Cross and is available for audiences to stream live or watch later on waitrose.com.

Each episode is themed around a different culinary calendar moment, with the first Christmas special in December titled, ‘Canapés and Cocktails’. January’s episode centres around chicken, sharing advice for how audiences can get the most out of their meat for the cold winter days. The episode is titled, The Whole Chicken and How to Use It.

February’s show, All Things Steak (and wine, of course), is set to help audiences go from steak lover, to steak expert and will include tips on choosing the cut as well as techniques on how to finish, serve and enjoy steak for any cuisine and occasion. The show will feature guest spots on wine and other accompaniments.

The show brings to life the expertise of Waitrose & Partners’ through a physical cookery school and resident chefs, bringing inspiration to a wider audience while showcasing the premium food on offer. The cookalongs are designed to be engaging and fun with hosts that bring to life the recipes.

The classes are hosted live and are fully interactive, allowing viewers to ask questions to Ruby and Alex in real time and vote on how they want to see each episode’s recipe finished and served. Viewers can also directly shop the recipes in the show in a TV shopping first by clicking through to ingredients readily available on Waitrose.com.

The show plays into the growing trend of live shopping, which allows audiences to see products in action before purchase. Waitrose’s culinary classes extend this growing trend to the food sector.

The show has been conceived, created and produced by Dentsu Creative UK, long-time publishers of Waitrose Food and Waitrose’s strategic content and creative partner, with help from Groovy Gecko and live shopping platform Livesell.

The 60-minute shows offer a unique way for the retailer to bring its products to life with food content offering education, entertainment and inspiration for audiences. The live-stream shows solidify Waitrose’s expertise in food while underlining its premium grocery offering and providing a new, fun, engaging way to shop.
