A sausage is safer than your tampon
Overview
A sausage is safer than your tampon. Yes, you read that right.
Isn’t that nuts?
And it’s not just sausages, it’s also:
Balloons. Cigarettes. Candles. Sponges. Air fresheners.
In the UK, tampons are classified as general consumer products, meaning they’re not legally required to:
- Disclose their ingredients
- Test for pesticide residues
- Undergo the scrutiny you’d expect for a product used internally
Alarming, to say the least - considering a tampon sits inside your body, in direct contact with your bloodstream.
TOTM are pushing to change that through a petition to update UK law.
Our role at JOAN Creative London was to make this uncomfortable fact impossible to ignore with 'Safer Than a Tampon'.
An initiative built on uncomfortable comparisons.
Because sometimes the quickest way to expose a policy gap is to put it next to a sausage.
All roads lead to the petition.
A small action.
A long-term change.

A sausage is safer than your tampon
'Safer Than a Tampon' has been created to raise awareness about the lack of regulation in tampons. Though aimed primarily at women and those who menstruate, the aspiration is for the wider public to also see and engage with the initiative and, ultimately, to sign the petition.
