Alcoholic DrinksTo mark the hot new launch of Absolut Tabasco, Wieden+Kennedy London has taken to the fiery depths of Reykjavík, Iceland, to create a striking, volcanic campaign.
Absolut Tabasco is the new spicy innovation from Absolut Vodka and Tabasco, pairing Absolut’s smooth winter-wheat vodka with spicy, iconic sauce. The new product launches with a suitably spicy campaign video, in which a group of volcanic explorers enjoy the drink in the hottest place imaginable.
Shot by director Leigh Powis in the volcanic fields south of Reykjavík, Iceland, the campaign film is set to Lou Reed’s Walk on the Wild Side.
The spot sees four explorers exit their vehicle, before setting up a table at the summit of a volcano to enjoy an Absolut Tabasco together. The silver metallic fire proximity suits paired against the backdrop of red lava makes for a bold and memorable visual. The film then pans out to reveal the shape of an Absolut bottle in the cracks of the volcano.
Set at real volcanic formations and with large-scale model replicas to ensure authenticity, the result aims to bring to life a place where volcanoes don’t erupt with lava, but fiery, mouthwatering Bloody Mary.
The campaign aims to capture both the fiery new product and Absolut’s cultural legacy. The brand previously collaborated with The Velvet Underground in the Absolut Album Covers series in the early 2000s and has appeared in lyrics by Lou Reed.
“Absolut Vodka has been culturally connected for decades, creating clever, witty campaigns that bring a smile to people across the globe. We wanted to pay homage to that four-decade long legacy with this new launch, while honoring our new partner; Tabasco Brand, with something that showcased heat in a visual, authentic way,” explains Filip Kiisk, Global Director of Brand Communications, Content and Partnerships at Absolut Vodka.
The campaign is the first work from Wieden+Kennedy London for the Absolut brand since being appointed in late 2024.
“In 2026, keeping someone’s attention for more than six seconds is a challenge. That’s why we’re returning the brand to simple, witty, ‘smile-in-mind’ work. We want to create the kind of images people save, pin, and hopefully one day soon, hang on their walls again,” added Freddy Taylor and Philippa Beaumont, Group Creative Directors at Wieden+Kennedy London.
The campaign film launches alongside out of home in London ahead of a full-scale global launch.
With striking visuals and whimsy, the fiery spot captures the imaginations of audiences, successfully standing out against a sea of sameness.
