In January we launched our Digital 2023 report and in the 11 years we’ve been producing this report, it’s gained tens of millions of views and has become a staple resource for marketers around the world. Digital 2023 shows us that time spent on social platforms has increased to more than 2.5 hours per day — 40 minutes more than time spent watching broadcast and cable TV.

As always, the report is packed full of insightful data, but this year in particular, we're seeing some really interesting stats, such as:

  • Average daily time online has fallen by 20 minutes over the past twelve months to 6 hours 37 minutes, a reduction of almost 5%
  • 16- to 34-year-olds are now more likely to visit a social network when looking for information about brands than they are to use a search engine
  • Investment in social media ads has more than doubled since the outbreak of COVID-19 to $226 billion in 2022
  • Internet users who own at least one form of digital currency fell by 3% between July and October
  • There are 5.16 billion internet users in the world today, and 4.76 billion social media users.
